Who Chains You Books, a publisher of animal-related titles based in rural Virginia, has announced a new imprint serving the postsecondary community. WCY Humane Press will feature titles that provide new and emerging texts related to academic efforts in animal welfare and humane education classrooms at the college level.

The imprint celebrates its birth with the release of its first title on October 15th, 2020, Humane Education in Higher Education: Advancing Inclusive Social Justice Studies in a Postsecondary Environment, edited by Stephanie Itle-Clark and featuring contributions by twelve scholars of the humane and prosocial movements. The book puts forth the primary concept that “A truly humane education revolves around inclusive social justice and supports personal development of ‘critical thinking, problem solving, perspective-taking, and empathy as it relates to people, animals, the planet, and the intersections among them,’” according to editor Stephanie Itle-Clark.

The volume further aims to bring truly inclusive humane pedagogy into the realm of the higher education to effectively address teaching intersectionality of social justice issues.
